As a parent, you want your child to succeed in school and life. It takes sacrifice to ensure your child has the tools they need to succeed. Both parents need to play their part in ensuring their child’s success.
Here are some ways to help your child succeed:
First, engage with your child as frequently as possible. Speak to and listen to them wholeheartedly. Be there to support, guide, and motivate them. Research shows that when parents are actively involved in their child’s life, it increases the likelihood of their success.
Second, equip your child with the necessary learning resources such as a designated study area, a desk, books, a computer, and other essential educational materials. Children can thrive better in their education when provided with ample learning resources and proper learning guidance.
Third, provide structure in your child’s life from the time they are awake to sleep. Create a timetable from when they brush their teeth, get ready for preschool, mealtimes, and go to bed. This will ensure consistency, continuity, and discipline.
Fourth, supervise your child and their activities, including the friends they spend time with, their time on studies, play, computer, sleep, meals, etc. Independence should be given to children as they grow older, but it should be given in doses and with supervision.
Fifth, get involved with your child’s preschool. Know their teachers and attend all activities organized by the preschool. Get feedback from your child regarding their preschool, teachers, friends, and wellbeing in preschool. This partnership between preschool and home is vital in ensuring your child’s success in school and life.
Sixth, reward your child for their achievements, which will help them gained self-worth. Correct them with reasoning if they have done something incorrectly. Be firm but caring, showing your child that you care about them, and they are loved.
Lastly, build your child’s self-esteem to strive beyond their pars. Children with high self-esteem have higher chances of becoming leaders and reap great rewards for success. Children with low self-esteem often experience failure in school and life due to a lack of self-confidence.
Education is about grooming wise little men and ladies with knowledge and character. It is important to instil positive values in your child at home and at school, such as kindness, love, sharing, caring, responsibility, respect, hard work, and humility. Give your child roots to believe in themselves and their values, and wings to become independent and successful.
