No coffee buzz here, just pure happiness and joy! Kinderland Preschool @ USJ had a blast during the Little Baristas Workshop at Starbucks Reserve.

Learning happens everywhere — even in a coffeehouse. Our recent field trip to the Starbucks Reserve IOI Mall Damansara gave Kinderland children the opportunity to explore the world beyond their classroom. The “Little Barista’s Workshop” was designed to explore hands-on discovery, creativity, and real-life observation.

The day started with a fun story about three friends and their billy goats, where a “magical drink” helped a sleepy friend feel better — and the children guessed it was coffee! Through the story, they practised listening, imagination, and sharing ideas while learning about teamwork and helping others.

Kinderland children were listening intently during the story-telling session of Kaldi & his friends. With interesting visuals and storyline, a simple story about coffee keeps the children engaged throughout the session.

One of the highlights of the workshop was a sensory bin activity filled with different bean types and pasta shapes. As children searched for hidden “treasures” such as specific pasta and bean type, they strengthened their fine motor skills, focus, and problem-solving abilities. Sensory exploration also encouraged curiosity, allowing children to compare textures, shapes, and sizes while engaging their senses in a meaningful way.

From fusilli to bowties, green beans and coffee beans, the children of Kinderland Preschool @ Bangsar and PJ Section 14 had a fun sensorial experience from this sensory bin.

The day continued with a unique coffee painting activity. Using coffee as a painting medium encouraged children to explore colours, textures, and artistic expression in a new way. A few children were even recognised for their creativity, adding an element of excitement and achievement to the experience.

Art comes in many forms and one of them can even be coffee! Kinderland Preschool @ Maisson Ara Damansara children showed how to use coffee as a medium for their painting.

Stepping into the role of “coffee specialist”, our young learners became “Little Baristas” as they created their own iced chocolate beverages. Decorating their drinks with sprinkles and toppings allowed them to make creative choices, build confidence, and express individuality — all while practising independence and following simple instructions.

Chocolate & pastries — a delightful hands-on activity children can truly get excited about!
Our young learners from Kinderland Preschool @ Denai Alam stayed focused as they carefully spread and designed their chocolate creations just the way they imagined, turning creativity into something sweet and meaningful.

The workshop concluded with a delectable dessert decorating session, where children prepared a sweet treat to bring home and share with their families. Moments like this nurture social-emotional development, as children experience the joy of creating something meaningful for others.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Field trips such as the Little Barista’s Workshop support holistic development by connecting learning to real-world environments. Beyond the fun, children practised communication skills, observed workplace roles, explored sensory materials, and developed confidence through hands-on participation. This excursion encouraged curiosity and helped children understand how communities work — reinforcing that learning is not limited to four walls.

At Kinderland, we believe that meaningful experiences shape lasting learning. By stepping into new environments, children build awareness, adaptability, and a deeper appreciation of the world around them — one adventure at a time.
